Choosing the right DJ continued.....The venue or club DJ will play at DJ venues and often focuses on particular styles of music. These DJs are generally still available for one-off "mobile" work, but often have residencies at the venues. Even where DJs say they play a range of music, they will still have more material of one style or another. It's best to discuss with the DJ your preferences and likely audience tastes, but ultimately it will come down to what people respond to at the event.

Prices of DJs vary considerably depending on experience, availability and equipment needed. It pays to shop around. It's important though that as well as playing the music you and your audience would like, that the DJ is happy to be accommodating at the event and do their best to meet music requests or make announcements. A grumpy, non-responsive DJ can significantly affect the time your audience have at the event!

The Wedding DJ continued...asking for references helps and someone with alot of wedding experience will likely be on time and play your requested wedding songs.

Make sure your wedding DJ gets a "run sheet" - this outlines different phases of the wedding (eg entry of the bride, wedding dance) and specifies any special song requests for that phase. You should also be clear with the wedding DJ about whether he will need to be an MC - many wedding DJs are happy to make announcements, but are not really MC's.

Wedding DJs generally provide all their own equipment, including a microphone for announcements. You should check with your wedding DJ whether his quote includes the time it takes to set up the equipment and how the equipment is presented (sometimes old, worn and ragged equipment is used - not a good look for a wedding!).

On the night of the wedding reception, a good weding DJ will play to your audience and feel the momentum on the dance floor to make your wedding a memorable one for all wedding guests.
